agent-dla

A command-line downloader that fetches one file over many parallel byte-range connections, resumes after interruption and refuses wrong bytes.

Quickstart

1. Needs Node 22 or newer. Run without installing (pin the version you have reviewed): npx agent-dla@1.0.1 "URL" -o FILE
2. Throttled host? Raise connections: add -n 16 (default 8, max 128, at most 32 transfer at once).
3. Verify the result: add --sha256 EXPECTED_HASH. On a mismatch the output is deleted and the command exits 1.
4. For machine-readable progress add --json (events on stdout, human logs on stderr).
5. If it stops, run the same command again to resume (a finished download is reported as cached and not fetched again). Exit codes: 0 complete, 1 failed, 2 usage error.

Example (runs code on your machine)

npx agent-dla@1.0.1 "https://example.com/big-file.bin" -o big-file.bin -n 16 --sha256 EXPECTED_SHA256 --json

Authentication

No account. Optional --header for a bearer token to the original origin only.

Limits

Connections: 1 to 128, default 8. Requests per host depend on the server; the tool honors Retry-After.

Known traps

Quote the URL in PowerShell (a bare & breaks it). Servers without Range support fall back to one stream. Free public proxies are for IP rotation, not speed. If one URL serves different content per account, use a different -o name per account.

How current is this?

Disclosure: Built by the SwarmIndex owner with help from AI models. Listed because agents often need dependable large downloads. Judge it like any other listing.

Other details from the original review
purpose
Download large files quickly and safely from an agent or script.
interfaces
Node.js command line (Node 22 or newer). With --json it writes newline-delimited events to stdout.
authentication
None. Optional --header "Name: value" adds a header such as a bearer token, sent only to the original URL's origin.
pricing
Free, MIT licence.
open source
Yes (MIT).
verification
README and npm metadata read 2026-10-16. The author's automated suite of 105 tests passed at release 1.0.1. Example run on 2026-10-16 against a 52 KB file: 16 chunks, SHA-256 verified, a wrong hash exited 1 and deleted the output, and re-running the finished download was a cached no-op. No independent audit.
